What is RPET and How Is It Different from RPET Felt?
RPET stands for Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate—a material made by extracting yarn from used plastic bottles, which is then woven into polyester fabric. In contrast, RPET Felt is created using a nonwoven technique called needle-punching, where loose plastic fibers are entangled and bonded using barbed needles and heat, pressure, or moisture.
Both RPET fabric and RPET Felt help repurpose waste plastic into durable materials. For RPET bags, bottles are flaked, melted, and purified before being transformed into usable fiber, significantly reducing the carbon footprint and reliance on virgin resources.
